Tips For Storing Your Belongings When You Run Out of Room

Have you ever moved into a new home and realized there isn’t enough room for all your stuff? Whether you’re moving to a nearby town or across the country, you want to bring all your belongings with you.  If you find yourself running out of space, don’t throw things out. Put them in storage. Here are a few tips to help make your storage experience go smoothly.

Label All Your Boxes

When you have everything packed in similar-looking containers, it can be tough to remember where everything is within your storage Lodi unit. The best thing you can do is label all your boxes and crates. In bold letters, write which room the contents belong in, then below, write a few essential items that are in that box. If you are looking for a particular piece, it may be easier to find it if you remember that it’s packed in the box containing nick-nacks for the living room.

Keep an Inventory Log

Once you have decided which items are going into the storage unit, make an itemized list of your possessions. This can be as simple as taking a picture on your phone of the inside of a box before you seal it or a detailed spreadsheet of each thing. Knowing what you have in storage makes it easier to find a specific item in the future. It saves you from digging through boxes of belongings only to remember the thing is on the top shelf in the closet.

Pack Items Carefully

Even though you will not be moving your items around while they sit in storage, it’s always good to protect your delicate items. Wrap glass and other fragile belongings in bubble wrap, and label the box as breakable. When you stack your belongings, ensure these items are on the top to prevent them from being crushed.
