Celebrate Walk to School Day with Us
Wednesday October 7th is International Walk to School Day! Livable Streets Education and National Safe Routes to School will be co-hosting a city-wide event at Washington Square Park. This will be a special day for students to come together and celebrate their walking achievements. We will have special guests and fun activities planned at the site.
Anyone from any K-12 New York City school can participate. You can consider walking from anywhere within a 30-block radius to our event which will be held in Washington Square Park from 1-2pm - as well as send delegates via transit. If your school is interested in joining in this celebration but will not be entering the We’re Walking Here NYC contest, we would still love to have you there!
If you are unable to attend our event, you can also hold your own event at your school. Take the morning of October 7th to put up posters, challenge students to walk, if they don’t – or walk farther if they come from transportation. The International Walk to School Day website has great ideas for creating small scale events and helping families learn about the benefits of walking. Check out this link for great ideas:
