Judging Criteria
* We will be giving prizes to categories by age: Elementary, Middle and High School – and a grand prize for overall best submission.
* Entries will be judged for clarity, creativity, and effort.
Your students will not be judged for how many of them walked to school.
Important Dates
* Friday, October 1st, 2009: You must submit your data before midnight in order to participate in the contest
* Wednesday, October 7th, 2009:  Walk to School Day!
* Friday, October 30th, 2009: You must submit your PSA to be judged in the contest
* The week of November 16th, 2009: We will announce the winners on the homepage of this website and via email
Submission Requirements
* Must be in the form of a Public Service Announcement: a non-commercial advertisement to educate and inform the public.
* They should be targeted at the general public.
* They can be about anything you learned from collecting and analyzing the data for this project, including, but not limited to: one of the many benefits of walking, reasons why we need to improve our streets for walkers, raising awareness about how many students walk to and from school.
* Can be created for any media (e.g. poster, song, rap, poem, film, play, article).
* Can be submitted in any format (e.g. JPG, Word Doc, PowerPoint, PDF).
We will take into account that we will be receiving a wide-range of media, and your school will not be penalized if you lack access to certain resources. Our three criteria are clarity, creativity, and effort, and newer technology will not be given any advantage.

* We will contact you via the contact information you have supplied on your sign up form if you are one of our winners.

* Entries can be submitted by individual classrooms or by whole school. There is no limit to the number of individual classrooms per school who can participate, but only one entry per class.
* Classrooms from every public and private school serving any level from grades K-12 in the five boroughs of New York City are welcome and encouraged to participate, however, you must submit the data collected in step 2 in order to become eligible to participate..
Ownership and Copyright
All materials, irrespective of format, produced in conjunction with and/or submission to the We’re Walking Here Contest become the sole property of Livable Streets Education’s parent organization, The Open Planning Project. To this end, said materials may be retained by The Open Planning Project for archival purposes, exhibition, publication, and promotion. Each contestant will retain full copyright of all materials to the greatest extent of the law unless otherwise assigned.You’re watching this. Stop watching it?

Judging Criteria

  • We will be giving out one Grand Prize of $1000 dollars to the overall winner of the contest.  Any class in Grades 3 – 12 are welcome to submit a PSA.
  • Additionally, we will be giving out Best of Grade Level prizes to Best Elementary, Middle School and High School entrants. They  will each be in the amount of $250.
  • Entries will be judged for clarity, creativity, and effort.

Please Note: Your students will not be judged by how many of them walked to school!
